Mara is a little girl, only 7 months old, which, despite her illness, spreads waves of light and joy around her.

Her health issues showed soon after her birth, but her parents realized how serious they were when, after a three weeks treatment in the City Hospital in Constanta, they were sent to Bucharest , where the diagnosis was set:  Atresia of extra hepatic biliary ducts (she was born without the liver ducts)

It was very hard for the parents to accept reality, but they did everything possible to save her. On 7 January 2009, at two months and three weeks, with the help of the kind doctors and Divinity, Mara suffered a corrective surgery, by method KASAI, which changed her life prognostic. The five hour lasting surgery was a real success, but after not even one month after surgery, Mara’s look turned icterical again, she threw up, had fever, was losing weight. Cause? A very strong infection, which had captured her little body and spread out quickly. Her body was worn with colonies of bacteria she had come in contact with in the hospital. She was diagnosed with SEVERE  CHOLANGITIS   (an infection of the biliary ducts), which had as effect the BILIARY CIRRHOSIS. After the administration of the proper treatment the effects showed up soon enough, but at only three weeks after the first episode of  cholangitis, Mara had a relapse. This time the symptoms were more violent and the treatment longer and more expensive. Mara’s life chances became lower as she was diagnosed with:
* atresia of extrahepatic biliary ducts
* biliary cirrhosis
* recurrent cholangitis
* light protein – energetic malnutrition
At this moment Mara’s life means monthly hospitalization and daily treatment; one can see the results, but she needs much more than that. A LIVER TRANSPLANT  would provide her with a safe future and a normal childhood, would give actually her life back. Because such a transplant can only be done in a hospital abroad, in Belgium, Mara needs 85.000 euro, which her family now doesn’t have. The expensive treatments, the special milk she needs and the often trips to Bucharest consumed all family’s resources.
Why has the Good and Almighty God allowed that Mara and her family go through all this pain, we don’t know. We only know that life is a precious gift from Him and every heart beat is worth fighting for. God makes a wound and He is the one who heal it and, in His Providence, He chose to use us, people to do it. If your heart is a at least a little sensitive to all this, answer to God’s call!
